Why is a power company involved in the business of economic development? We are committed to doing our part to ensure our communities remain vibrant and strong.
Building strong, healthy communities requires an investment that goes beyond monetary resources. AEP’s Economic and Business Development team puts its expertise and connections to work, helping local communities attract and retain businesses and jobs. From site certifications to attracting foreign investment to our service territory, our team connects customers with communities.
There are many goals for the AEP Economic and Business Development team, including job creation and retention, growth and enhancements to the local economy and the overall well being of the communities we serve. I’m pleased to share that this team garnered great success last year.
In 2015, the EBD team worked on 170 business attraction and retention projects in the region we serve. These projects took place in our AEP service area, which covers 11 states including Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia, and include over 3,000 local communities.
These business and attraction projects are expected to create 22,500 jobs in our communities, creating immense positive economic impact for those who live and work there.
If you’re part of our AEP service territory communities, we’re glad to have the opportunity to serve you. How can we help your community to thrive and prosper in 2016? Reach out to our corporate staff or your local AEP contact today to let us know.
