In 2017, Site Selection magazine named us one of the nation’s Top 10 utilities in economic development for our 2016 efforts in attracting 124 projects – and their nearly 18,100 jobs – to our 11 state service territory.
Here are a few of countless examples of how we show our support:
In Kentucky, we awarded 5 communities with Kentucky Power Economic Advancement Program (KEAP) grants totaling $200,000 in 2014 to support projects that promote the creation or retention of manufacturing investment in Eastern Kentucky. We plan to invest $1M by 2019.
In Texas, we joined the Texas Economic Development Council to sponsor a workshop in Victoria with an industry relocation expert on ways to provide a more effective labor force analysis to site selection consultants and industry executives considering a move.
In Ohio, our CEDA program has helped local economic development professionals across 30 counties learn about their competitive gaps and opportunities, so they can make improvements to be more successful at recruiting business and industry.
Our business is about making connections — to communities, businesses and to people. In 1934 one of our company leaders wrote, “We are a citizen of each community we serve and take an active part in its affairs. Like any other citizen, we want our neighbors to think well of us.”
That citizenship spans well beyond our philanthropic efforts into promoting economic prosperity. In addition to our work in business attraction, retention and expansion, we help our communities be better prepared for economic development through training and by preparing sites for industry.
