Site Selection magazine has ranked Findlay, Ohio, the top Micropolitan community in the United States for the second year in a row. Now you might be wondering, “what is a Micropolitan community”? According to the Office of Management and Budget in the White House, a “micropolitan” is a city of 10,000 to 50,000 people covering at least one county.
The magazine ranked 575 total communities across the country, and Findlay came out on top by securing more facility deals than any of the others—26 projects to be exact. This number beats the record-breaking mark that Findlay set the previous year with 20 projects.
Findlay-Hancock Economic Development has been working diligently since the early 1980s to build industry in the area and in turn build the workforce in Findlay and Hancock Counties for these industries. A community-wide effort, in conjunction with the United Way, helps with these employment initiatives to provide schooling from pre-K to technical education and community college to build the future workforce in the area.
With its location near Interstate 75 and railways, Findlay provides excellent logistics and proximity to the rest of the country. Some of the largest companies in the area include Whirlpool, Marathon Petroleum, and Cooper Tire and Rubber Company.
According to Tony Iriti, Economic Development Director for Findlay-Hancock County Alliance, 2016 is also looking very promising for Findlay. Whirlpool broke ground on its expansion in early April, and the ground breaking of the Hancock Hotel on the Marathon Petroleum Corporation campus will take place later this summer. The AEP Economic and Business Development Team is proud to support and partner with Findlay-Hancock Economic Development on many projects.
If you know a company considering a move or expansion to this top-notch Ohio community, AEP has two certified quality sites in the area: the Findlay Commerce Park, an AEP qualified data center site, and Midwest I-75 Logistics Park, an Austin Consulting-AEP certified food and beverage site.
